JD Vance’s Stance on Abortion

As the presidential election approaches, Life Issues Institute has fielded increased questions about the respective candidates’ stand on abortion.

Recently we discussed Vice President Kamala Harris’ position on abortion. Interest has grown surrounding JD Vance’s stand on abortion as well. This does not serve as either an endorsement for or opposition to any political candidate but is for informational purposes only.

JD Vance is a businessman and graduate of Yale Law School. He first entered the political scene in 2016 with the release of his bestselling book titled Hillbilly Elegy. The memoir detailed his childhood growing up in Ohio surrounded by poverty and addiction.

Elected as a United States Senator in 2022, Vance previously described himself as, “100% pro-life.”

The record on abortion for this father of three is clear.

  • Vance joined pro-life activists in efforts to defeat Ohio’s radical pro-abortion constitutional amendment 1.
  • Fought against Joe Biden’s pro-abortion appointees in the senate.
  • Supported measures that aimed to financially support couples having children including efforts to make childbirth free.
  • Voted against tax-payer money funding abortion.
  • Defended strong protections for the unborn in the state of Texas.
  • Aptly made the moral comparison between the evil of slavery and the evil of abortion.

Since becoming Donald Trump’s Vice-Presidential running mate Vance said, “I am as pro-life as anyone, and I want to save as many babies as possible. This is not about moral legitimacy but political reality.”

In an interview on NBC’s Meet the Press, Vance said that he agreed with the Supreme Court’s ruling in FDA v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine regarding the chemical abortion pill. This ruling did not address the merits of chemical abortion, nor the safety of the pill, but rather rejected the case on procedural grounds.

Vance has given his support to the idea of setting “some minimum national standard” to protect the unborn federally. Giving further insight into his position on this he said, “You can have some minimum national standards, which is my view, while also allowing the states to make up their minds. California is going to have a different view than Ohio. That’s totally fine.”

It is critically important to be educated on where candidates stand on the issues most important to you, including life.

Defending Life,
