Black Pro-Life Leaders are Making Them Nervous

People of color are the most targeted segment of society by the abortion industry. Government statistics and census data show they’re in the crosshairs of pro-abortion activists.

But the Black community is fighting back with a group of talented leaders who utilize a pro-life message that’s resonating in Black communities across the country.

Pro-abortion politicians and leaders find it alarming that the Black population they treated as easy prey, is no longer submitting. An encouraging example is what happened recently in a briefing of the Congressional Black Caucus and Congressional Pro-Choice Caucus. The gathering was called African Americans’ Attitudes on Abortion, Contraception and Reproductive Justice: From Public Opinion to Policymaking. (“Reproductive justice” is the new politically correct term for abortion.)

Day Gardner, president of the National Black Pro-Life Union, infiltrated the meeting, believing the key to persuading these Black political leaders to the pro-life position was educating them. Sadly, she relayed the dismal truth, “They already know the abortion rate is very high in the Black community. They just don’t care. Their entire focus now is trying to get Blacks who don’t think abortion is an issue to connect it to basic healthcare, because healthcare is a winning issue.”

Their intent is both shocking and sickening. African Americans are very protective of their rights, and the pro-abortion movement capitalizes on this by attempting to control the narrative. With careful word choice and sinister intent, they warp the significance of debate away from killing an innocent and defenseless preborn baby, to instead portraying abortion as a “legal right” or “reproductive justice.”

For example, a recent pro-life billboard campaign was found to be extremely effective in reaching Black women. The billboards contained images of Black babies and large headlines that read “Black Children are an Endangered Species” and directed viewers to a website. Another billboard had an image of President Obama with the words, “Every 21 minutes, our next possible leader is aborted.”

Pro-abortion Congresswoman, Barbara Lee of California, led efforts to have the billboards removed stating, “They succeed in dividing Blacks on the abortion issue, and must, therefore, be shut down as soon as they go up.”

To further mislead the Black community, Nancy Beldon, a partner at Beldon Russonello Strategists, suggested manipulated polling. “It will be necessary to make sure polling generates the answers we need. You can make polls say what you want them to say. It’s all about asking the right questions, in the right sequence, with certain phrasing. It is critical to keep the subject on healthcare, not babies.”

The underhanded tactics these individuals plan to use against African Americans also include making the argument religious in tone like, “God gave you free will.” Beyond that, race and class warfare are used to create a sense of inequality between groups. The bottom line is that they intentionally abuse the rich civil rights legacy of Black heritage and distort it by making individuals believe abortion is a “right” rather than murder.

We’re grateful to have many Black pro-life voices on the front lines of this battle every day. Among them are Rev. Arnold Culbreath (on the staff of Life Issues Institute) and Dr. Alveda King. They, along with others from the National Pro-Life Black Coalition, have combined their voices into a new tool created specifically to reach those in minority communities. Life At All Costs: An Anthology of Voices from 21st Century Black Prolife Leaders is a collection of articles, essays, sermons and research papers written by authors, ministers, post-abortive women, physicians and pro-life activists. This new resource gives a comprehensive overview to understanding the pro-life position and communicates a resonating message that speaks to both the heart and mind.
