Maison DesChamps, an outspoken pro-life advocate and friend of mine, has been sentenced to 45 days in jail and fined $75,000 for climbing the Sphere in Las Vegas.
Why did Maison climb the Sphere?
He did it to save an unborn babies’ life, and it worked.
We interviewed Maison on our weekly radio show, Straight Talk on Life Issues, and he told us about his line of work. Maison is a true believer in the cause for life. He is someone who not only says that abortion is murder; he acts like it too.
Climbing skyscrapers is a dangerous business. He knows that he may face certain fines and legal consequences. He knows that someday he could lose his grip and fall to his death. If he was doing it for selfish gain or personal attention, it would be a foolish thing to do. But Maison takes these risks because it allows him to save unborn babies.
In fact, the specific climb that landed him in so much trouble was one such example. There was a young woman pregnant woman facing homelessness. She believed the lies of the pro-abortion advocates and thought her only answer was to get an abortion.
Thanks to this climb, Maison was able to draw attention to her story and help raise nearly $50,000 for her and her baby! Because of his efforts, she chose life.
Maison risked his own life to do the only thing he knew would save that unborn child.
Maison’s wife is pregnant and with this sentence, Maison might miss the birth of his first child.
Interestingly, others have been spotted climbing or attempting to climb the sphere in the past. To my knowledge, none have been treated as harshly as Maison. Some who climbed the Sphere, like renowned free-climber Alex Honnold, were celebrated for their incredible climbing skills (granted he did have permission).
While I certainly cannot encourage others to climb skyscrapers to defend the unborn, I hope and pray that we all take inspiration from Maison’s heart for life.
We will not end abortion until our country begins to act like abortion truly is the greatest injustice of our lives.
It is reported that last year more than 1,100,000 babies were aborted. This must be stopped.
Luckily, we do not all need to climb buildings to win this fight. However, all of us do need to give of our time, talents, and treasures to win this battle.
Please pray for Maison and his family has he endures the price of his bravery.
In defense of life,
