Today approximately 1 in 36 children are diagnosed with autism. Parenting a child with autism can be difficult as they often experience differences in social interaction, communication, sensory processing, and behavior patterns. Today in honor of Autism Awareness Month we are joined by Scott, Teresa, and Austin LeRette as they share their family’s story. Individuals with autism are beloved members of society and their lives, like every life, are sacred.
Resources

Key Ministry
Key Ministry promotes meaningful connection between churches and families of kids with disabilities for the purpose of making disciples of Jesus Christ.
Since 2002, we’ve provided knowledge, innovation, and experience to the worldwide church as it ministers to and with families of kids with disabilities.
Our ministry was founded to help churches minister to families of children with hidden disabilities. We find ourselves uniquely called and positioned to serve churches seeking to become more intentional and effective in ministry with children, teens and adults impacted by mental illness, trauma, and developmental disabilities and their families.

Ability Tree
Ability Tree was founded in 2010 by missionaries, Joe and Jen Butler, who made it their mission to come alongside families impacted by disability to provide R.E.S.T.
When Joe and Jen’s son, Micah, was diagnosed with multiple disabilities, they realized the overwhelming need for support of families who are impacted by disability. Driven to make community possible and make Jesus accessible across the U.S., Ability Tree was planted.

Euthanized for Autism
You’ve heard me talk about the horrifying euthanasia program in Canada. It’s gotten worse. A judge ruled a twenty-eight-year-old woman can be euthanized simply because she has autism. The young woman who lives with her parents is otherwise in good health. The judge acknowledged the “profound grief” her father would feel, but in the end that doesn’t matter.
