Cincinnati, OH (May 13, 2013) – Justice was served in the trial of Philadelphia abortionist Kermit Gosnell as he was found guilty of first degree murder in three of the four babies’ deaths with which he was charged. He faces the possibility of the death penalty in each case. Gosnell was also found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the death of abortion patient Karnamaya Mongar. In Pennsylvania, a conviction requires the unanimous agreement of all 12 jurors. His sentence will be determined at a later date.
Life Issues Institute Executive Director Bradley Mattes, responded, “We’re pleased to see justice done for these horrendous crimes against humanity. Kermit Gosnell wasn’t the exception. Back-alley-type abortion mills are more common than people think. Gosnell is the face of abortion in America today. I’m thankful the jury saw through the deceptive pro-abortion rhetoric and concluded that he’ll be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”
Dr. J.C. Willke, president of Life Issues Institute, said, “As a retired obstetrician, it’s good that the jurors know what my women patients and I have known for decades; a newborn baby should be protected by law.”
Gosnell was on trial for allegedly severing the spines of at least four babies following botched abortions. He faced over 200 additional charges including conspiracy related to corruption, illegal abortions, medical malpractice and controlled substance violations.
