An Unlikely Ally

The pro-life movement is no stranger to welcoming unlikely allies to our cause. Together we form a broad coalition of different races, religions, and political beliefs with one thing in common. We want to protect life.

Once again, we appear to be on the brink of welcoming an unlikely ally. Robert Kennedy Jr. has been confirmed by the Senate Finance Committee and will soon face his final confirmation vote before the full senate where it is believed he will prevail.

You may remember that not long ago during his run for president, RFK Jr. outraged many by giving his support for late-term abortion. No one would consider him to be a pro-lifer by any means. However, since that time Mr. Kennedy appears to have moved away from his pro-abortion views.

He has backtracked on his late-term abortion stance, now publicly opposing it after being educated further on the topic. In addition, he committed to enforcing President Trump’s pro-life agenda should he become head of the Department of Health and Human Services.

During his second senate hearing, Mr. Kennedy was grilled by both sides of the aisle relating to his stance on abortion. Kennedy stated, “Every abortion is a tragedy” and “We cannot be a moral nation if we have 1.2 million abortions a year.”

When Senator Steve Daines asked about the dangerous chemical abortion drug, now the number one method of abortion in the United States, Kennedy’s answer was surprisingly encouraging. Kennedy stated, “It is immoral to have a policy where patients are not allowed to report adverse events or doctors are discouraged from doing that. President Trump has asked me to study the safety of Mifepristone, he has not yet taken a stand on how to regulate it, whatever he does I will implement those policies.”

Some of the pro-life movement’s greatest spokespeople are those who once supported abortion. Former Planned Parenthood workers, abortionists, and pro-abortion activists often serve as incredible defenders of life once they see the truth. While it is important to trust but verify, he and all other former abortion supporters are welcome to join the fight for life.

The sloppy and political handling of the chemical abortion pill by the FDA has been a great disservice to women and babies around the country. For years the dangerous pill has continually had safeguards removed. Studies have found that chemical abortion has four times the complication rate of surgical abortion.

With no meaningful medical oversight these dangerous abortion pills are sent by mail. As a result, there is a growing black market, and these drugs have been forced upon women without their consent or knowledge. The mail order of these deadly drugs has caused this problem to extend even to states with robust pro-life protections.

Should RFK Jr., or anyone running HHS, study the dangerous chemical abortion drug in an honest pursuit of the truth, it will be made clear that action must be taken to protect women and children. With Mr. Kennedy’s background as a supporter of abortion, his word could carry tremendous weight on this topic.
