All too often we hear a familiar story repeated in headlines that another woman was tragically abused or even killed because she refused to have an abortion.
Abortion empowers boyfriend abusers, sex traffickers, and their ilk. It is seen as a way out – a chance to abdicate their responsibilities to the mother and child. No child support, no dirty diapers, and no strings attached.
Unfortunately, it has become far too common that these abusive men demand their partner get an abortion, and resort to violence when she refuses.
Women are told many lies about abortion, one being that it is somehow “empowering.” Women who are threatened, coerced, or pressured into taking the life of their child have not been empowered. The very opposite is true. Rather than giving women the resources they need to thrive as a mother, abortionists give the predators a way to thrive in their abuse. They’re aware that they have an easily accessible way out, all they must do is force the woman to abort her baby.
This problem is so prolific that homicide is the leading cause of death among women that are pregnant.
Countless women report they felt coerced into having an abortion, often by a spouse or romantic partner. The threat of violence is a driving force aiding the abortion industry.
In a 2014 study titled, “Associations between intimate partner violence and termination of pregnancy: a systematic review and meta-analysis” researchers set out to determine the relationship between intimate partner violence and abortion. They discovered that there is a strong association between violence and abortion.
- Intimate partner violence, including history of rape, sexual assault, contraceptive sabotage, and coerced decision-making, was associated with abortion, and repeat abortion.
- Women in violent relationships were more likely to have concealed the TOP from their partner than those who were not.
According to a 2009 study conducted by the Elliot Institute, up to 64% of women felt pressured to get an abortion. Much of that pressure comes from intimate partners who may be coercing the woman to do something she does not want to do.
In England a man set his ex-wife on fire because she refused to abort her child. In Minnesota a man was charged for beating a woman, kicking her in the stomach and tasering her when she refused to get an abortion. In Tennessee a man was charged with two counts of first-degree murder after killing a 6-month pregnant woman and her unborn child when she refused to abort his baby.
There is a tragic and endless number of stories just like this. All made possible by the abortion industry telling these abusers that if the woman would just get an abortion all their problems would go away.
Violence and coercion are not only directed at mothers by their intimate partners, but it can also come from family members who seek to force a child to have an abortion. This was the case in Texas when a woman was arrested after assaulting her daughter, pinning her to the floor, and attempting to force her to ingest chemical abortion pills. Or in India when a young woman was forced by her parents to abort her child because the father was from the “wrong caste.”
Stories of coercion and violence surround the topic of abortion. Loyola University Chicago conducted a study in 2014 which found that 66 survivors of human trafficking had a combined 114 abortions. Abortionists at Planned Parenthood are notorious for not reporting instances of rape and sexual abuse. Rather they simply choose not to ask questions. This allows the traffickers to continue making money selling women, and the abortionists to continue making money killing children.
No matter how many soft, kind words the abortionists use to describe their evil it will still be evil.
Coercion is not healthcare. Abuse is not empowering. Killing a child is not a human right.
