A presidential candidate – I won’t share his party or name. What’s important is understanding he’s wrong. While describing himself as “unapologetically pro-life,” he said, “I would not support a federal abortion ban of any kind.” The candidate claims the constitution says abortion’s only a state’s rights issue. It’s true the Supreme Court reversed Roe and returned abortion to the states. But the Court did not say the constitution forbids congress from enacting legislation protecting the unborn. If we are to protect the babies in blue states like California, Illinois, and Maryland, we need federal legislation that’ll protect all American citizens, born or unborn. Always be discerning when candidates talk about abortion. The babies deserve better than those who compromise our efforts.
