A veteran from Canada called the Veterans Affairs Canada office for assistance. He suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder and a traumatic brain injury. Instead of help, with his challenges, the soldier was offered euthanasia. He was understandably outraged and felt betrayed by an agency tasked with the job of helping him. He lays his life on the line for his countrymen, and this is how he’s treated? As the father of an Iraqi vet, I share his outrage. The subject of euthanasia was totally unprompted by the veteran, and the staffer took it upon himself to decide euthanasia may be the answer. The soldier has received an apology, but in my opinion that isn’t enough. Those responsible must be fired and changes should be put in place to ensure this never happens again.
