The Open Door Pregnancy Center of Cisco, Texas has a creative way to teach young people in their rural area. Its mobile ultrasound unit is visiting schools, church camps and youth groups with an unforgettable message. At these events they’re showing the students actual ultrasounds using a pregnant volunteer, while explaining what they see and hear. Students see in an unforgettable way that it’s a baby in the womb, not a mass of undefined tissue. It’s important they meet the pregnant woman, which helps humanize those involved in pregnancy decisions. By taking a page out of Planned Parenthood’s business model, they’re creating a positive relationship with young people in nine counties. Should they or someone they know face an unexpected pregnancy, now they know where to turn.
