Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas made some attention-grabbing comments addressing blatant censorship by big tech moguls like Facebook, Twitter and Google. Widespread damage has been inflicted on pro-life and conservative individuals and organizations’ right to free speech. Justice Thomas said there was historical and legal precedent that’s been applied to “common carriers” of communication. He noted the challenge of “applying old doctrines to new digital platforms.” Citing the unprecedented “control of so much speech in the hands of a few private parties,” Justice Thomas wrote, “We will soon have no choice but to address how our legal doctrines apply to…digital platforms.” These are encouraging words coming from the nation’s highest court.
