Earlier I told you about a rogue doctor in China who illegally edited the genes of twin girl embryos, implanted them into the mother and they were born. Our fears are being realized. The goal was to make them immune to HIV infection, but it didn’t work in one of the twins. Further, the genetic experiment actually made the girls more susceptible to influenza and West Nile virus. There may also be a negative effect on their cognition, and it likely shortened their lifespan. Thankfully America has a laws against such unethical experiments, but other nations would allow the human embryo’s to be created, just don’t let them live to be born. Life is sacred from the moment of fertilization, regardless of the circumstances. We must protect them.
