Mayra Rodriguez ran three Planned Parenthood centers and had worked with the organization for seventeen years. She even won Employee of the Year, shortly before they fired her. Mayra witnessed alarming and unlawful activity: an abortionist’s’ illegal conduct and high complication rates; falsification of affidavits and patient records; incomplete abortions, and failure to report statutory rape. She saw these things as threats to the health and safety of patients, so when she repeatedly reported them, they fired her. She sued. The jury – after only three hours of deliberation – awarded her three million dollars in damages. Even though her attorney didn’t ask for any dollar amount. Seems the jury knew abuse when they saw it.
