For forty-three years the Hyde Amendment has been added to the appropriations bill and prevented your tax dollars from funding abortion. It’s saved millions of lives. Pro-abortion Democrats in the House of Representatives had Hyde in their crosshairs and were pushing to jettison this life-saving amendment. However, they changed their minds, and it’s unusual for the pro-abortion Democrats to back off. You see, the Hyde Amendment is popular with American voters and over a third of Democrats identify as pro-life. The pro-abortion leadership in the House didn’t have the votes because their members were worried about getting reelected. Abortion is a bipartisan issue, and a majority of Americans don’t want to fund the killing of unborn babies.
