October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month and a great opportunity to share examples of the blessings people with this condition bring. Mason High School in the Cincinnati area has a great assistant football coach. Nate Petrey has Down syndrome and is a former football player. After graduation he joined the coaching staff because of his passion and bond with the program. He’s responsible for setting up the practice field and helping with drills. Players credit Nate for maintaining closeness and enthusiasm among the players. Head coach Brian Caster said, “When he walks into the locker room…he’s automatically making us better.” People with Down syndrome are often underestimated. With your help we can show them to be the blessings they really are.
