Board members in Effingham County in Illinois have come up with a novel idea for promoting the pro-life message. They were inspired by large metro areas that declared themselves sanctuary cities for illegal immigrants. The Legislative Committee passed a resolution declaring Effingham County a “Sanctuary for the Life of Unborn Human Beings.” A week later, in the final vote, the Board made it official. Only one Board member opposed the resolution. Board Chairman Jim Niemann who cosponsored the resolution said he has “received ample support from residents.” When asked why the Board was involved, he replied, “If not us, who, and if not now, when?” The resolution has no legal weight but helps point residents toward a culture of life.
