It’s a sad commentary on life in China where respect for human life is held in poor regard. For decades the government has forced abortion and sterilization on its people. An elderly and lonely widower has put himself up for adoption. He’s estranged from his sons, refuses to go to a nursing home and is afraid of dying alone. So, in an ad he explains that he’s still “strong-bodied, can shop, cook and take care of himself. My hope is that a kind-hearted person or family will adopt me…and bury my body when I’m dead.” Traditionally, the elderly were valued and respected, but the one-child policy has transformed the way this nation views human life. Tens of millions elderly people now struggle with no support. I pray he finds a family.
