Notre Dame is the Catholic Church’s flagship university in America. So when its president, Father John Jenkins, invited aggressively pro-abortion Barack Obama to speak at its commencement service — and bestow an honorary degree upon him — there was tons of controversy. Nearly four-hundred-thousand people went on record, including almost a hundred Catholic cardinals, bishops and archbishops opposing his presence. Now that Trump was elected, Father Jenkins isn’t so sure about inviting him, citing the political circus resulting from Obama’s visit. Never mind though that months after Obama’s speech, Father Jenkins said he’d do it all over again. His hesitancy to invite Trump smacks of playing politics with the university. To snub President Trump would prove it.
