Cause of Suicide Increase

For years, the suicide rate had been going down, but now it’s increasing over twenty-four percent with every age group.  The national media blame it on drugs, economics and a lack of mental health resources.  The real reason we’re seeing more suicide victims is because states have begun to legalize physician-assisted suicide.  Suicide in Oregon, where assisted suicide is legal, increased forty percent above the national average.  The media describe assisted suicide in positive, glowing terms like “death with dignity” and “aid in dying.”  This makes regular suicide look good and increases the number of its victims.  Assisted suicide is a deadly wolf in sheep’s clothing, presenting itself as genteel and safe.  In reality it’s killing the vulnerable who might simply be depressed.
