I’m president of the International Right to Life Federation and was informed by my colleague in London of a huge victory. Pro-lifers there overwhelmingly defeated an attempt in Parliament to legalize assisted suicide. Considering people in Europe are more liberal, this is really good news from Great Britain! The Society for the Protection of Unborn Children was at the forefront of the battle. Paul Tully on staff said this debate highlights the need for advancements in Palliative care, including the effective management of pain which would diminish the calls for medical killing. Dr. Philippa Whitford, a Member of Parliament, said it best, “I have never considered as a doctor that death was a good treatment for anything.” And another lesson learned is they must remain ever vigilant.
