This past year, the suicide of Brittany Maynard, who suffered from cancer, created an emotional wake of euthanasia legislation in the states. And they all failed. The last one was in California and the legislation, not the people, was euthanized. A combination of Latino Democrats, Catholic voters and disability rights groups “terminated” the slippery slope of euthanasia in their state. These defeats show the pro-euthanasia movement isn’t driven by popular demand. It’s a top-down effort by the privileged who will never have to worry about receiving substandard healthcare or being abandoned at a critical time. But this year’s efforts show we have to be ever vigilant and stand strong against the slippery slope of euthanasia. Please pray that God will continue to protect us from these bills.
