We Would Have Aborted Him

Bradley Mattes   |   November 07, 2014

Jill and Iain Kelly say they would’ve aborted their five-year-old son, Dylan had they known of his disabilities.  Jill says “Dylan is my world.  I love him.”  Yet she describes herself as “adamant” about the missed opportunity of abortion.  Those statements can’t be reconciled with one another.  The mom cites the suffering Dylan has gone through and the suffering yet to come.  But my guess is Dylan would rather not be killed and deal with his considerable disabilities.  The likely problem is the parents don’t want the burden of a disabled child.  Before Dylan was born, Jill recalled telling doctors “We didn’t want a child who wasn’t going to be able to ride a bike and do things that normal children do.” Please pray the Holy Spirit will soften the hearts of these parents.
