Miss You Can Do It Pageant

Her”s a beauty pageant for children I can endorse. It’s nothing like the appalling TV program called Toddlers and Tiaras. It couldn’t be more different. This one is open to girls with disabilities from toddlers to young adults. The pageant is called Miss You Can Do It, and participants have conditions like spina bifida, cerebral palsy or Down syndrome. It was founded by Abbey Curran, a former Miss Iowa USA. Abbey, who has cerebral palsy, was the first Miss USA contestant with a physical disability. The pageant’s about inspiring and motivating the girls to help them “go out and conquer the world.” Abbey’s message is “everyone is beautiful” and it’s her hope these beauty queens will one day be treated equally. Gee, promoting beauty inside and out? I hope this concept catches on.
