A Youth-Led Tech Revolution

With technology playing such an integral part in my recent robotic heart surgery and speedy recovery, I couldn’t help but think of its vital role in winning more hearts to embrace a culture of life.

The latest example comes from Facebook, the hugely popular social networking website. Recently, the tech giant added a feature allowing its 750-million-plus users to add an “Expected: Child” spot in the “Friends and Family” section of their profile.  Users can also add an ultrasound photo of their unborn baby, the baby’s name and the due date.

ipad baby Whether intentional or not, Facebook is demonstrating that an unborn child is a special gift—eagerly and joyfully anticipated—a joy to be shared with friends and family alike. What’s different this time is the pro-life mindset is notably being demonstrated by our current generation of tech-savvy young people.

Thanks to innovative devices like iPad applications and 4-D ultrasounds, for example, visual stories of babies’ lives—before they’re born—are being told and are changing young minds about abortion. With the concrete realization that there’s much more than a “blob of tissue” developing in a mother’s womb, these cutting-edge, tech-savvy gadgets have profoundly influenced this generation’s conversation. And it’s helping to mold their mindset into some of the most devoted advocates of the pro-life movement.  After all, they’ve grown up with an ultrasound image as their first baby photo.

Up until around the year 2000, opinion data gathered by General Social Survey found that young people between the ages of 18 to 29 were the least sympathetic group toward the pro-life cause. Now, the General Social Survey has found that young people in this age range are stronger advocates than their parents on the pro-life issue.

Life Issues Institute realizes the important role technology plays in pro-life education. This is why we’ve provided resources such as our Windows to the Womb images on CD, which is a set of high resolution pictures of a baby’s life in the womb. Your generous donation of any size can help us produce more of these educational resources to distribute to those who may need them.

There’s no question that advanced technology—when combined with the youth generation—will be key to carrying the pro-life banner well into the future. We’re thankful for your faithfulness in coming alongside of us at this time.
