The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has quietly allowed retail pharmacies – both small businesses and major chains – to distribute deadly abortion drugs. Pregnant mothers can now obtain mifepristone, or RU 486, with a prescription.

To make chemical abortion more accessible, the FDA has now eliminated many safeguards it previously believed were necessary to protect women’s health. The repercussions of this decision will be devastating.

“What the FDA is doing will turn previously respectable entities – post offices and pharmacies – into arms of the abortion industry,” Bradley Mattes, President of Life Issues Institute, said. “The FDA has cowed to pro-abortion extremists and as a result, mothers and their babies will pay a very heavy price.”

Women often endure the harmful effects of chemical abortion in the isolation of their own homes, without any medical supervision. Many have been hospitalized, and some have died. As the abortion pill becomes easier to access, more babies will die, and more mothers will suffer.
