Estimates Show 70 Million Abortions as Leading Worldwide Cause of Death

As we enter the new year, we look forward to the many lives that will be saved through the tireless work of Life Defenders. We also mourn the tragic number of lives lost last year.

According to estimates made by the World Health Organization there are 73,000,000 abortions worldwide each year. They estimate that abortion towers above all other leading causes of death including heart disease, cancer, malaria, and wars.

Life Issues Institute President, Brad Mattes said, “Outpacing global wars and diseases of mankind, abortion has stolen more innocent lives than them all.”

These harrowing statistics ring true not only internationally, but in the United States as well. Domestically, abortion is the leading cause of death taking the lives of an estimated 900,000+ children each year according to the Guttmacher Institute. Over 62,500,000 babies have been slain in abortions in the United States since 1973.

Life Issues Institute remains dedicated to ending the culture of death that has taken the lives of so many precious children. Entering 2024 our resolve to defend the unborn is stronger than ever.

Life Issues Institute is dedicated to changing hearts and minds of millions of people through pro-life education. Organizations and individuals around the world depend upon Life Issues Institute to provide the latest information and effective tools to protect innocent human life from fertilization to natural death.
