It is no surprise that pro-abortion activists are willing to lie; it is the backbone of the entire industry. However, the false narrative surrounding the tragic death of a mother and her twin babies in Georgia is nothing short of sinister.
Amber Nicole Thurman, a young mother from Georgia, tragically passed away following complications from the chemical abortion of her unborn twins. The single mother left behind her six-year-old son.
Vice President, and Democrat nominee for President, Kamala Harris posted on social media, “A young mother from Georgia should be alive today, raising her son and pursuing her dream of attending nursing school. This is exactly what we feared when Roe v. Wade was struck down. In more than 20 states, Trump Abortion Bans prevent doctors from providing basic medical care.”
The official X account of Planned Parenthood posted, “Amber Thurman and Candi Miller should still be here with their families. The reports of Black mothers losing their lives because of Georgia’s abortion bans are a cruel reminder: Abortion bans inflict preventable harm and make pregnancy more dangerous — especially for Black women.”
This lie by abortion extremists is that this young woman died due to Georgia’s pro-life protections. The claim is that laws which protect the unborn somehow place mothers in danger.
This is patently false. Every pro-life state in the country, Georgia included, has protections for the life of the mother. There is no law which prohibits a mother from receiving lifesaving care in the event of life-threatening complications.
What happened in this tragic case highlights the tremendous danger presented by chemical abortion drugs. Amber Thurman traveled out of her home state of Georgia into North Carolina where she acquired the chemical abortion pills. While the pills were successful in killing her two unborn twins, some of the remains of her children were left inside. This common complication caused the infection which would later take her life.
When Thurman went to the hospital she was initially treated with antibiotics. By the time she was taken in for a D&C she had been in the hospital waiting for 20 hours. It is unclear why doctors did not act swiftly to save Thurman’s life. Regarding the delayed care the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists said, “This is one of the most clearcut cases of medical malpractice that we have ever seen.”
While it is unclear as to why the hospital waited so long to treat Amber Thurman, it is undeniable that Georgia law did not prohibit lifesaving care. Georgia law states, “No abortion shall be performed if the unborn child has a detectable human heartbeat except in the event of a medical emergency or medically futile pregnancy.”
What tragically took the life of Amber Thruman, and her unborn twins, was the dangerous chemical abortion drug, not pro-life protections. The pro-life community has long worked to shed light on the dangers of chemical abortion.
This tragedy never would have happened if the FDA had not spent years removing every safety restriction on chemical abortion that they could. Clinic trials show that it is crucial for the mother’s safety that RU 486 chemical abortifacients are not given without a follow up visit due to the prevalence of significant bleeding and complications. If Amber was required to visit the abortionist for a follow up, she may not have lost her life. While focus is on abortion legislation and the delay within the hospital, the role of the FDA should not be understated.
For years the FDA has ignored medical reviews which state there is a “need for at least three visits to the medical facility including at least a four hours stay after the administration of the misoprostol.” Rather than protecting women and babies from the dangers of chemical abortion, the FDA has turned to an extreme pro-abortion agenda including mail order abortion drugs.
