Making “The Call”
Rising country music star Matt Kennon has been surrounded by music all his life. He made the move to Nashville, Tennessee with the hopes of pursuing a career in music. He’s worked to become more than just a singer by developing his songwriting skills. His debut single, “The Call”, reflects these talents while also carrying a powerful message. The song centers on stories regarding abortion and suicide—issues with which Matt has a very personal connection.
Matt’s biological mother was a poor, single woman who could barely support a young son when she found herself pregnant with Matt. Seeing no other option, she made the painful decision to abort. Luckily, she was two weeks past the legal date and her doctor refused to perform the procedure. Instead, he recommended the option of adoption. Matt’s life was saved by the beauty of adoption. It was his adoptive parents who raised him with a sense of right and wrong and who fostered his musical education.
James Stroud is a legendary Nashville music producer and the CEO of Stroudavarious and BamaJam Records. After hearing Matt’s unique sound, James knew he had to sign him. James has been instrumental in guiding and producing Matt’s debut CD. James has an equally personal connection to “The Call.” His son committed suicide 18 years ago. He hopes this will be a record that sets Matt apart and touches many lives at the same time.
