Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe recently signed the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, requiring that babies born alive during or after an abortion receive the same legal protections and medical care as any other newborn. The law also establishes criminal penalties for intentionally killing a child who survives an abortion.

This legislation is a step in the right direction, and we celebrate every life saved. However, it cannot be the finish line. Unborn babies who survive an abortion have no greater right to life than unborn babies who are about to be aborted. If life is valuable and begins at conception, then anyone who supports laws protecting abortion survivors must also support laws protecting all unborn babies.
