The U.S. Supreme Court has handed down a unanimous decision protecting free speech and donor privacy for a pro-life pregnancy center in New Jersey. In First Choice Women’s Resource Centers v. Platkin, the justices ruled the ministry can challenge a sweeping subpoena that demanded donor names, contact information, and internal records.
Justice Neil Gorsuch wrote that government demands for private donor information can burden constitutional rights. That means pro-life groups do not have to wait until state officials fully enforce intimidation tactics before seeking relief in federal court.
This case matters nationwide. Pregnancy centers provide diapers, counseling, ultrasounds, and material support to mothers in need.
