Texas Protects Life of the Mother Exception

We’re seeing a legal tug of war in Texas over its law protecting the state’s unborn babies and mothers from abortion which has a life of the mother exception.  Several women sued, claiming they were denied medically necessary abortions under this exception.  It was a desperate attempt to create a loophole large enough to allow more abortions in the state.  But the Texas Supreme Court disagreed.  All of them.  It was a unanimous decision, including three women justices and one of them wrote the opinion.  The Texas Medical Board has been asked to further clarify why women can receive emergency medical treatment while protecting the state’s unborn babies.  This was a good decision that will prevent the erosion of protections for babies.  I hope other states take notice.
