Sadly, we mostly see the abortion issue divided upon party lines. But Louisiana’s demonstrating that protecting the unborn and their mothers can be – and should be – a bipartisan effort. Republican Jack McFarland and Democrat Katrina Jackson-Andrews are cosponsors of legislation increasing the funding of the Alternatives to Abortion program. And it’s getting bipartisan support. The increase from one million to over four million dollars will go to pregnancy centers, adoption agencies, maternity homes and social service organizations that don’t promote or refer for abortion. Some of the services include parenting classes, baby supplies, counseling, job training, and classes on budgeting, all for up to three years after the birth of the baby. That’s pro-woman and pro-child.
