Have you heard of Safe Haven Baby Boxes? Every state has Safe Haven laws that provide for newborn babies to be turned over to first responders or medical personnel if a birthparent feels incapable of raising the child. To accommodate the parents, yellow Safe Haven Baby Boxes are being installed throughout the nation. Recently, they installed box number two hundred. A door opens on the outside of a designated building, the baby is placed inside, triggering an alarm. This tells the people on the inside to retrieve the child. Sight unseen, no questions asked. This has proven effective in saving babies from being abandoned or worse, found dead in a dumpster. Indiana used to have on average two dead babies per year, but not one such infant since the boxes were installed.
