Fees for Free Speech

The world of academia is supposed to be an environment where students can freely exchange ideas and opinions without fear of persecution.  In reality the university setting is one of the most bigoted and intolerant places to be for pro-life students and speakers.  The University of New Mexico subjectively imposed a security fee of over five thousand dollars on the Students for Life chapter when they hosted a speaker.  University officials predicted other students would act unrulily, so they penalized the pro-life group.  Alliance Defending Freedom, a nationwide pro-life attorney group got involved and told officials pro-life students shouldn’t be forced to pay a fee for free speech.  Let’s hope the University of New Mexico follows another university in rescinding the seemingly targeted fee.
