A Texas group called Christians Engaged educates people of faith on God’s will regarding abortion and other social issues, and encourages them to become politically involved. The group filed for a tax exempt status with the IRS but were denied. Director Stephen Martin explained in a letter writing, “The Bible teachings are typically affiliated with the [Republican] party and candidates. This disqualifies you from exemption under IRS Section 501(c)(3).” Mr. Martin is violating the group’s right to free speech and free exercise of religion. This must not stand because any organization advocating biblical principles could be denied tax exempt status. This demonstrates the level of anti-Christian bigotry existing in government. Christians must be engaged.
