Abortions Decline in New York City

Bradley Mattes   |   December 31, 2020

For the first time in many years, live births to Black women in New York City outnumbered Black abortions.  The reversal of this tragic milestone was reported by the Summary of Vital Statistics 2017, the most recent statistics available.  The trend of declining abortions was present in every major race.  During a four-year span, Hispanic abortions dropped by a third and Asian abortions declined slightly more.  Blacks experienced a decrease of nearly 30% and Whites dropped by 23%.  But there’s much work to be done.  Black women in New York City are nearly three times more likely to have an abortion than White women.  Planned Parenthood’s business model of targeting women of color has not abated.
