A group of Planned Parenthood employees across Austin, Texas sent a letter to their CEO listing some concerns. Less than 72-hours later, about 20 employees had been let go. Ella Nonni thinks it’s because the letter stated that during the pandemic, staff weren’t given enough personal protective equipment to protect themselves; they were being forced to do non-essential work for patients in-person; and they weren’t offered paid sick leave if they began exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms. In addition, during the past year, Nonni had been trying to unionize the group. Planned Parenthood claims it was simply a financial decision due to the pandemic, but Nonni and others think management just doesn’t care about keeping them safe.
