University Professor Supports Motherhood

Bradley Mattes   |   April 09, 2020

Encouraging and supporting the idea of motherhood on the campuses of our nation’s universities is rare.  Academia is more known for advocating careers, many times at the expense of having a family.  But that’s not the case at Lander University in South Carolina.  Sarah Thompson took a little time off from classes to deliver her baby, and one of her professors, Dr. Josie Ryan, insisted she bring her newborn into the classroom upon her return.  Not only did Dr. Ryan show support for this new mother and baby, she made sure Sarah knew where the breastfeeding station was.  And when she brought little Isaiah to her math class, Dr. Ryan actually ran the class while holding the newborn throughout the entire period so Sarah could take notes.
