The Food and Drug Administration sent letters warning two websites that are offering unapproved versions of chemical abortion pills. Doing so bypasses critical safety precautions such as requiring a prescription from a physician. The FDA warned that using these pills for abortion isn’t safe for women to self-diagnose and treat themselves. It cited possible “fatal infections” and “prolonged heavy bleeding,” and a lack of access to emergency care. The FDA gave the websites fifteen days to comply or face action. We’ve produced a compelling brief video on chemical abortion, including a doctor who explains the risks involved, as well as two women who share their harrowing experiences with the drugs.
