Sickle-cell is a debilitating and deadly disease which largely affects the Black community. It deforms red blood cells into the shape of a sickle, which can get stuck in blood vessels, causing excruciating pain, strokes or damage of the organs. Stricken patients can become severely anemic and prone to infections. But there are three new gene therapies undergoing trials that show great promise and they all use adult stem cells, not embryonic cells. Patients who have already undergone smaller trials have had miraculous results. This is a giant breakthrough because sickle-cell impacts an estimated one-hundred-thousand people in the US. Please pray for this life-affirming research.
