November is National Adoption Month, so it’s sad and ironic that the first draft of the tax bill from Republicans in the House of Representatives would eliminate the adoption tax credit. Adoption’s an expensive process and in many cases the tax credit makes it possible to provide a forever home for children who desperately need it. The adoption credit has enormous symbolic and practical meaning. It promotes an alternative to abortion; and each year about fifty-thousand children are adopted out of foster care, many of them placed into low-income homes. The small cost of the tax credit is offset by long-term savings to America’s state and federal taxpayers. Visit life issues dot org and click on the megaphone to contact your congressperson now.
