The government’s Centers for Disease Control have sounded an alarm of sorts. The rate of Sexually Transmitted Diseases has risen to an all-time high. Over two million cases of chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis were reported last year. The ability of STDs to be resistant to available drugs also worries the CDC. Also disconcerting is the growing number of syphilis cases among newborns, which has led to severe health complications or death for these babies. If STDs go undiagnosed and untreated, the result can be infertility, life-threatening ectopic pregnancy or stillbirth. The stark reality is the increasing rate of STDs is outpacing the ability of the healthcare community to respond. The age-old advice to save sex for marriage and remain faithful to your spouse is a sure way to prevent these problems.
