Pregnancy and Cancer

Bradley Mattes   |   October 17, 2017

A young mother from Ohio was getting a seven-week ultrasound of her unborn baby when they found a cyst on her ovary.  It turned out to be ovarian cancer and doctors suggested an abortion so she could begin chemotherapy.  But the mother refused, saying her unborn son was the reason they found the cancer.  “He saved my life.  Now it is my turn to save his.”  Many doctors don’t realize pregnant women now have options when it comes to chemo without a risk to their babies.  The lead researcher of a two-year old study published in the New England Journal of Medicine said women don’t have to abort their babies based on fear the cancer treatment could affect their children.  Times have changed.  Abortion isn’t the answer to dealing with cancer and chemotherapy.
