When Ganesh Rakh was a boy in India he wanted to be a wrestler, but instead became a doctor. In his country boys are desired over girls. Many times he witnessed relatives at the hospital celebrating the birth of a boy, but when it was a girl, they quietly disappeared. Distressed about the widespread abortion and abandonment of girl babies, he decided to do something about it. He began a policy at the hospital he founded for the poor to provide free deliveries of girl babies. His staff at first was reluctant, but he assured them the fees of other patients would cover the costs. In time the staff began baking cakes for relatives to celebrate the birthday of each new daughter. I’m really glad this pro-life doctor didn’t become a wrestler.
