No Hero of Justice

Bradley Mattes   |   August 28, 2015

The national Portrait Gallery is part of the Smithsonian museums and located on the Mall in Washington, DC. Recently they added a bust of Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood to an exhibit called “Struggle for Justice.” Several Black pastors from around America wrote a letter demanding they take Sanger’s bust out. Further, they explained her documented history of Black eugenics, speaking a KKK meetings and her communications with Hitler sympathizers. Sanger’s notorious Negro Project sought to keep Blacks from having children, calling them “human weeds.” The pastors pointed out the irony of her bust next to luminaries like Martin Luther King, Jr and Rosa Parks, people who Sanger never even wanted born.
