Medical Group Oppose Protecting Babies with Down Syndrome

Bradley Mattes   |   May 21, 2014

Multiple studies show as many as ninety-percent of parents who receive a prenatal diagnosis of Down syndrome, abort their babies. This is appalling, so the Pennsylvania legislature is considering a bill to require doctors to give these parents fair and balanced information, including the positives of children with Down syndrome. The Pennsylvania Medical Society objected, saying it’s an intrusion into the physician-patient relationship. But based on the stats, most doctors are giving bad information and babies are paying with their lives, so there needs to be intervention. Besides, there are requirements that physicians face very day designed to protect patients. Why do they think this one’s different? Opposing doctors need to be more concerned with the wellbeing of their unborn patients.
