Great Expectations

“Yesterday was a difficult day.
There’s no getting around it: the results of yesterday’s election are truly alarming.”

– Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards

Congratulations! We expected great results on Tuesday, and you delivered! Not only will a pro-life majority now take leadership of the US House of Representatives, but our representation in the US Senate also received a critically-needed boost.

With few exceptions, America fired the congressional supporters of President Obama’s pro-abortion health care reform bill, better known as “Obamacare.” Fifteen of the 20 self-described pro-life congressmen who voted for this legislation are out the door-and good riddance. In their place, more than 50 new, actual pro-lifers will arrive in DC this January. Of particular note is a 60 percent increase of pro-life women in the House. In fact, across the nation, 23 pro-life women won crucial Senate, House and gubernatorial races.

This breath of (life-affirming) fresh air left the abortion industry shaking in their boots. Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards e-mailed industry supporters on Wednesday morning. She lamented the pro-life victory, worrying that “extremists” will “pursue a dangerous agenda.” But America knows us better than that. In fact, polls indicated that abortion was a significant voting issue across the nation-and not in Planned Parenthood’s favor. We and our neighbors increasingly agree that President Obama’s abortion agenda is taking us in the wrong direction, that it is the truly dangerous agenda.

Yes, my friend, we’re fired up. Changing the face of Congress is just the first step. But any talk of repealing Obamacare will be intensely fought. Measures to shut down Planned Parenthood’s funding stream won’t be easily won, nor will efforts to ensure the sanctity of life through stem cell research, end-of-life care and even what’s taught in our schools.

With great expectations for the days ahead, we must continue to prayerfully support our new leaders. Yes, they need congratulations today, but more importantly, they need encouragement every day to stand strong for life.

Sincerely,
