Unhappy Anniversary

I just left Washington, D.C. where the Capitol Lawn is about to be flooded with tens of thousands of pro-life sojourners. Today is the unhappy anniversary of Roe v. Wade.

We never imagined that 37 years would pass. That more than 50 million lives would be snuffed out. To think some Americans are actually celebrating this anniversary breaks my heart.

At noon, some 100,000 advocates will enthusiastically March for Life, along Constitution Avenue, up to Capitol Hill and the Supreme Court. Some will pray. Some will hold signs. All will proudly stand united for life.

I couldn’t stay, though. I just had to see for myself what’s happening in San Francisco.

Over 35,000 of pro-lifers are on their way for tomorrow’s Walk for Life West Coast. Our gathering is a bold statement to make in an overwhelmingly pro-abortion state. But we’re not intimidated. Truth is not determined by how many or how few people proclaim it.

History’s shown that change is achieved by the steadfast. It’s been decades since abortion was legalized, and though we pray it will be stopped in far less time, we are committed to this mission and will stand strong, for life, until this battle is won.

So much is at stake right now. A health care bill that sends our tax money to abortion mills and puts medical practitioners who refuse to perform them in jeopardy looms in the foreground. We are hopeful that these vigils will get the attention of Washington politicians, but also the men and women in America who need to know that abortion is not the answer.

We understand that not everyone can make it to D.C. today or San Francisco tomorrow. But you can still be part of the action. Call or write your elected officials. Ask them to look out their windows and take a moment to imagine 50 million more faces in the crowd – the faces of so many innocent little lives who aren’t here because of abortion.

Today we give a voice to the babies, so they can see a tomorrow.

Marching for LIFE,
