Our friends at the Charlotte Lozier Institute recently released a very important, and very disturbing report.
They document how the deadly chemical abortion pill, which accounts for two-thirds of all abortions in the United States, is illegally being shipped to all 50 states.
Some of their key findings include:
- Unregulated international online pharmacies will ship abortion drugs to all 50 states, and most don’t require prescriptions or consultations before shipping.
- The broad availability of these drugs to all buyers, along with the lack of medical oversight, increases the risk of forced and coerced abortions.
- Community abortion drug networks often provide loose, unmarked pills and place no gestational limit on how late in pregnancy the drugs may be ordered. This raises concerns about drug quality and increases risks of complications like incomplete abortions.
- To prevent international abortion drug shipments from entering the U.S. and harming American babies and women, federal enforcement is needed.
As studies show, these pills are not only lethal to the unborn, but also very dangerous to the mothers who are taking them. Roughly 1 in 10 women who take the abortion drug will face serious adverse medical complications including sepsis, bleeding, and hospitalization.
These pills also enable sex traffickers and abusers who can obtain the abortion drugs through the mail and use them to force women to have unwanted abortions.
Only three abortion pill distributors have been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Many of the drugs being shipped into the U.S. are NOT being sent from certified pharmacies or certified sponsors.
The FDA as well as Customs and Border Protection must protect Americans from these dangerous, and largely unregulated, abortion drugs.
Chemical abortion turns mothers into abortionists. It turns bathrooms and hotel rooms into abortion facilities. It heartbreakingly results in the bodies of unborn babies being flushed down toilets. Chemical abortion is responsible for the murder of hundreds of thousands of babies each year.
However, defeating abortion goes beyond stopping this dangerous drug. The abortion industry will not give up without a fight. If Mifepristone, the first drug in the current two-part abortion regimen) is regulated out of circulation, they are already prepared to move to Misoprostol only abortions, a barbaric method already used in some parts of the world.
In fact, Planned Parenthood already has a dedicated webpage to promoting Misoprostol only abortions.
Much like a game of whack-a-mole, each time we defeat one form of abortion, another will pop up. On social media websites like Reddit, there are already hundreds of posts explaining how to induce abortion using herbal methods.
To finally end abortion, we must not only make it unthinkable, but we must also make the very act itself illegal. The pro-life cause has come a long way, but there is much work to be done.
If we wish to cross the finish line and end abortion in the United States pro-life education is paramount. We must convince the nation of the truth that each unborn baby is a human being deserving the right to life, no different than anyone outside of the womb.
