“Why should you care if someone else has an abortion, it is none of your business and doesn’t even affect you!”
This argument in defense of abortion does not even attempt to wrestle with the moral question at hand, rather it suggests that we should simply look the other way.
In response, we should bring the conversation back to the moral question at hand. Does abortion take the life of an innocent human being? The answer of course is yes (see the foundation of the pro-life position).
Considering that fact, how could it be moral to look the other way as millions of babies are murdered?
Just because something does not directly impact you does not mean you can’t speak up on it.
A few examples to prove this point:
- Most of us have never been human trafficked, yet we oppose human trafficking.
- Most of us have never been victims of chattel slavery, yet we know the transatlantic slave trade was evil.
- Most of us have never been stabbed in a random act of violence, yet we oppose stabbing people in random acts of violence.
- Most of us have never been the target of a genocide, yet we oppose genocide.
The list can go on and on. When we know that a great moral evil is being done, we ought to speak up against it. A simple question to ask pro-aborts is: “if you saw a mother who was attempting to poison her child, would you say something?”
Abortion is the greatest human rights violation of our time. More than 63,000,000 babies have been murdered in the United States since 1973. When we learn about the great human rights violations of the past like chattel slavery or genocide, we often assume that we would have been one of the good guys speaking out against evil.
We currently can be the good guys who stand for the rights of others rather than selfishly looking the other way as innocent people are killed.
As we continue to expand our growing catalog of pro-life answers to pro-abortion arguments, please feel free to submit suggestions at info@lifeissues.org. We will happily refute any arguments that you need help with.
